Birding Locations Ireland
Sutton Strand is located in North Dublin, close to Howth Head, overlooking the end of Bull Island. When the tide is out there is a large area of sandy and rocky beach exposed. This attracts a good variety of gulls and waders. The best time to visit is an hour or two before full tide as the incoming tide drives birds closer to shore.
If you are travelling by car from Dublin, turn right at Sutton Cross and again turn right where the road follows the coast. A few hundred metres further on, there is a lay by where you can park the car.Walk back in the direction came from and check out the beach. You can also walk on in the opposite direction and stay with the coast road until you reach a nature walk along the coast.
If you have time to spare, you can visit Howth Harbour, or Howth Head which is only a 10 minute drive from here.
