The Purple Sandpiper is a winter visitor and it is restricted to coastal areas of the country, although it is scarce on the South Coast. it is usually found around rocky areas and harbours.

Best Sites

Purple Sandpipers are often seen resting on the rocks near the Lighthouse, or foraging along the edge of the harbour wall at Howth Harbour, during winter months.
